All things Pilates…
Why pilates – what do you love about it?
Megan: I absolutely love the burn you get with pilates – there’s nothing else like it!
What classes do you teach?
Megan: pFIT Core & pFIT Method on the reformer, and occasionally I’ll pick up some Core & Method on the mat side too.
How did you start on your journey with pilatesFIT?
Megan: I started as a client in 2019, I was looking for something local and had walked past the studio so many times – I decided to take the plunge and give a class a go and haven’t looked back since!
What do you love most about pilatesFIT?
Megan: Definitely the overall vibe of the studio – it’s always a lot of fun, very upbeat but also incredibly welcoming. We have clients who come to the studio for all sorts of different reasons and there is always a suitable option for them which has just the right amount of challenge which I love.
Favourite classes to teach? And why?
Megan: I love teaching all of our class styles, Method might just take out the top spot because it’s always a lot of high energy fun and I can push clients that little bit more with some fun challenges.
What are your favourite exercises in the studio?
Megan: I love anything to do with a jump board – it’s going to be a good time if the jump boards are out!
Best exercises if you have just 5-10 minutes?
Megan: At home, grab a glute band if you have one and do some side-lying glutes and squats. Guaranteed burn really quickly!
All about Megan
What is your day job? And your background?
Megan: I am an audiologist, which involves hearing tests and fitting hearing aids. For the last few years though I have mainly worked office jobs with less time spent in clinic.
Name your top 3 activewear brands
Megan: Lululemon is number one for me, Lorna Jane and I love PE Nation but don’t own enough (in my opinion!)
What tunes do you have on repeat? Do you have a Spotify playlist that is your go-to?
Megan: I honestly listen to a little bit of everything, most of the songs I listen to on repeat are ones we have on our studio playlists (or I hear on Tik Tok) and I get obsessed with them for a few weeks at a time! Right now I keep listening to Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap, oldie but a goodie.
When you aren’t training, what exercise do you do yourself?
Megan: I try to get out daily for a walk, get in a couple of sessions for myself at the studio and do 2-3 days a week at the gym either boxing for cardio or doing some heavier weights to build my strength.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that we might not know.
Megan: Usually my answer to this question is “I’m a pilates instructor”! But since I can’t really use that example here, something you might not know about me is that I absolutely love reading and usually read 1-2 books a week.
Some of my favourite books which I would highly recommend are:
- Girl, Woman, Other – Bernadine Evaristo
- Station Eleven – Emily St. John Mandel
- Normal People – Sally Rooney.
Favourite food?
Megan: Anything Italian – yum!
The best way to unwind?
Megan: I love sitting down with a good book and a cup of tea.
If you weren’t teaching pilates what would you be doing?
Megan: My day job is an office job, so probably that! Teaching Pilates has been such a great change up from the 9-5 and gives me so much energy – I always look forward to my teaching days.
Your top tip (can be to do with exercise, nutrition or mindset)
Megan: Listen to your body and be kind to yourself – our needs and energy levels change from day to day, some days are for high intensity work outs and other days are for walks and stretching. Take what you need and leave what you don’t!
Why should people choose to train with you?
Megan: I can promise a good pilates burn and even the shakes if you catch me on the right day, and I always aim to bring great energy and a bit of light-hearted fun to the sessions I teach.
